Team Survivor Oregon Trail is a resource designed to educate women
in all stages of cancer treatment about the benefits of incorporating an exercise regime into their daily lives. Unfortunately,
treatment for cancer often causes a loss of lean body mass and a loss of bone density. The loss of lean body mass slows the
metabolism and often leads to weight gain. The decrease in bone density can lead to a higher risk of fracture which can cause
further health issues. Through an exercise routine that incorporates a combination of strength training, cardiovascular training
(dancing, walking, biking, swimming etc.), and stress reduction, women can combat these side effects and even reduce their
chance of a recurrence.
Team survivor exercise programs give women the opportunity to experience quality exercise classes
with other cancer survivors. Our programs are intended to be appropriate for the beginner to the elite athlete, in every
stage of treatment for cancer. Many women have reported a greatly improved outlook on life after starting an exercise program.
Although this side effect may not be as scientifically measurable as an individual's lean body mass, it is a benefit of
exercise that is just as important. Studies have shown that women
cancer survivors especially, benefit from participating in supportive programs with other survivors. Team Survivor Oregon
Trail is here to offer you just that!
We have posted this website before our programs have been fully developed to initiate conversation and encourage
women who were in the research program at OHSU to stay connected (see blog/chat page). Please check back often for we will
keep you updated on the progress of all of the proposed programs.

our exercise programs are fully developed and ready to bring into the community please visit our other resource pages!
